Thanks for taking so much time to answer my post. I am pretty sure I downloaded the correct BIOS update file. The only thing I can think of that I realized after starting the BIOS upgrade was that the Ethernet cable was still attached to the laptop. I don't know if that could have failed the update but I know now to check more thoroughly in the future and I thank you for sharing your experience and wisdom.
