Hello,
At the risk of being unloyal, I'd just like to suggest that the best
notebook computer for the task may not be an IBM ThinkPad after all.
A quick Internet search found several manufacturers of ruggedized and
semi-ruggedized laptops, including:
Dolch <http://www.dolch.com>
GridUK <http://www.griduk.com>
Itronix <http://www.itronix.com>
Melard <http://www.melard.com>
Panasonic <http://www.panasonic.com/computer/notebook/>
While going with a new laptop will be much more expensive than going
with a used one, a new laptop will come with a warranty and technical
support of some sort, which is not something you will necessarily
obtain with a used one. I am unsure of how much of a consideration that
is but if there is going to be some valuable data being logged or if
downtime/system unavailability must be minimized, it may make sense to
go with someone who specialized in ruggedized laptop field.
Regards,
Aryeh Goretsky
