Was all set to order a T40 (237347u) with the 1024x768 screen and started
to think about how I'm going to feel so cramped. My most recent mobile
was/is a G4 laptop (1280x960) and I love the resolution. However, the
screen is bigger than the T40 (15") and I'd been thinking the 1400x1050
would be too small (fontwise).
However, I'm one who always runs a higher res ...i ran 1280 on my 17"
CRT, and now run 1600 on my 21" (not that unusual these days).
So I started looking at the 1400x1050 T40's... (comments welcome on this
res ... is MS word usable at 100%?)
There's a 1.3ghz model that would do, except it doesn't come with
wireless. Then there's the 1.6ghz models. Pricey, but I can probably
live with it.
Then I notice that the 1.6's are 4.9lbs travel weight instead of 4.5. I'm
pretty sure this is due to them coming standard with the extra capacity
battery, although I haven't been able to confirm this on their site. This
is the one that sticks out the back. Configure on their site doesn't seem
to offer the option of the regular battery. Dimensions are listed the
same for this model as the others.
Sorry for the babble.
Does anyone know if there's any reason you can't put a regular-size
battery in a 1.6 1400x1050 res T40? Do you still get the ~5hr battery
life? I'm thinking I really want to maintain the T40 form factor and
travel weight (I had originally been thinking about an X31 :)).
Thanks for the help. Before my G4, I ran a TP570 (still do, actually) and
its rock solid. I got a dell in the mail on Friday and the thing is so
flimsy I'm sending it right back monday and ordering another TP.
