I guess your "uglier" one is made in Mexico, right?
I don't complain too much about this if all carrying cases currently attached
to the Ultrabay 2000 drives are with a similar quality worldwide. However
it seems that only Ultrabay 2000 drives sold in North America (or just in
Canada?) come with poor quality carrying cases.

I bought a 570e from Urbancomp from the US three years ago and it came
with the higher quality case on the left. I recently purchashed a refurbed
T30 from ITXchange in Canada and it came with the uglier case on the
right. It seems it may be a function of time with IBM moving to a lesser
quality case - glad I retained the old case too as I use it to carry extra
HD's - two per case - and they do fit better in the older style quality case.
