This is prolly a non-Thinkpad topic, so my apologies. I have the D-Link DI-614+ (2X) router and it has no problem with non D-link cards including T40's Intel 2100 3B. On the Advanced>Performance config page, make sure you set the basic rates to 1-2-5.5-11 instead of 1-2-5.5-11-22. You can still have the Tx rates set to 1-2-5.5-11-22 and the 4x mode enabled. Another thing to check the SSID broadcast; some clients can't connect with it disabled, although it works fine with D-link clients. I'm also assuming you have added the MAC if you have MAC filtering enabled. Other than those three settings and WEP key (other clients don't support 256-bit key), the D-Link 2x router should work ok with most adapters. Now I'm just waiting for D-Link to release the WPA firmware, which would probably never happen despite their promises. Browse the forums on dlsreports.com for more info/discussions.
