I've got a 600X, and it's really very adequate for my needs, save one.
I sometimes like to surf the web or read e-books in bed. (OK, a very few
e-books that Microsoft gave away this summer.) Anyway, since I'm a ThinkPad
bigot and will not consider buying any other brand, maybe something in the X
series will do what I need.
I got the latest twbook and tbook PDF's and made a big spreadsheet with all
the features I could fit and noticed some surprising things.
1 - Is it really true that the X20 and X21 have no IRDA port? I use the port
on my 600X now and then to Hot Sync my Sony PDA. It looks like X22 and later
have IRDA.
2 - While X20 to X31 weigh from 3.5 to 3.8 pounds, the X40 is listed at 2.8!
Wow. The change to a 1.8" disk means more expensive upgrades. And the other
feature I think I'd use is the CF slot, which is changed to SD on the X40.
Hmmm. I just may wait to see how prices are affected when it's officially
introduced in the states, if ever.
3 - I'd like to read how X series owners feel about their purchases, and
whether they are worthwhile machines. What they like, what they'd like to
change. There are a lot of changes from the 20 to the 31... RAM and CPU
speed mostly, but also communication features, so it will help me pick a
model to hunt down a good price on.
Any stories or pointers to information are greatly appreciated.
