Thanks for the reply but I was looking for hints on the likely failure
modes as opposed to the inherent limitations of a six year old machine.
You have to understand that my primary computer (with my notes, calendar
and phone book) is a HP 200LX palmtop (80186, DOS, 5.0, 16 Mhz, 8Mb) so
the 560 doesn't seem so slow.
The palmtop doesn't do much but it's stone-axe reliable and the
batteries last for weeks.
With the 560 I've got a light cheap computer that will run the programs
I want and give me good battery life. I get 2-3 hours with the battery
that was in it when I got it off E-bay. Someday I'll get a new battery
and see how long I can go with full power.
It runs Netscape, reads PDF documents, does basic photo editing and runs
AutoCAD R13 well enough for the few times I need it on the road.
It's certainly not a full service laptop but that's not why I have it.
I have it because it's light, cheap and efficient.
I expect to be using a 560 for at least 5 years, maybe longer given the
computer industry's preference for ever more powerful power hungry
hardware. Actually the most likely replacement will probably be a 500
Mhz PDA one they get old enough to be cheap....
In the meantime I'm a devoted Thinkpad fan because they last so long and
I can get parts (sort of like HP used to be before they became Compaq).
