[Thinkpad] x31 + which dvd

I'm thinking of getting an X31 and am trying to decide whether to get an
ultrabase with a dvd or get a pcmcia dvd drive, such as this teac
http://www.teac.com/DSPD/DVD_ROM.htm This drive will work off the
thinkpad's power.

I would only use the dvd drive while traveling, and would probably bring an
extra battery (in case the airplane or whatever did not have a power
port). The standalone dvd drive seems lighter (at one pound) than an
ultrabase+dvd (over two pounds).

Any thoughts on which course is preferable? Any suggestions for a
different drive than the teac?
