To be honest, with the stuff I do, (Web based application development in
Java) the problem isn't usually CPU speed, its RAM. I have to always have a
task manager of some sort running with an eye on total RAM usage. When I start
to get near SWAP I have to usually close something down and restart it or
reboot.
One of the things that bothers me with IBM Thinkpads is the standard
purchasing configuration. Some thinkpads came with 512 as default but the
majority came with 256. IBM should allow clients to purchase with whichever
configuration they like. If not, build me a couple more slots to play with.
I have 785 megs now because the laptop came with 256 and I purchased 512.
If I want to jump to a gig, I have to dump 256 to get another 256. Rather
annoying.
