A colleague and neighbor, who works as a computer tech in a local
retail computer store [under-employed in CA], advises me that
they've stopped carrying/installing IBM/Hitachi desktop drives
because of a high return rate. Their experience is that since the
Hitachi takeover, legendary IBM quality control has gone away.
They've switched to WD (but do NOT sell/service laptops).
I hope this is not the case with laptop drives.
Best/worst [www.driveservice.com/bestwrst.htm] has not been
updated in quite a while; I have no other points of reference,
