RE: [Thinkpad] New Combo Drive OEM

Dimensions of these three are the same as my old one. With back atapi
connector shouldn't be the problem either, I think - from what I've checked
in new drives it is some kind of standard (same place, same number of pins).
But you may be right about holes. I'm also worried about front panel. I know
that sony is ok for T21 (except you have to do some modification to original
bezel - i.e. cut some hole). My old one was Hitachi - but not found sth from
it for a combo. I was thinking that the safe choice is LG because IBM is
using it for some UltraBay devices but read post about problems with
previous unit (GCC-4240N).

I'm planning to get one of these from local dealer in Warsaw (Poland) -
about 100-125$ including VAT (original drive from IBM is three times as
much)

I'll write about the outcome on the list

Thank you for putinng my attention to other things

Regards,
Roman

It's not that simple.
Most of the OEM's have standardized on the back atapi connector in terms of
location etc.
External dimensions are also quite close.
But that is it!
Front Bezels are not intechangeable ..mounting holes are all over the place.
( also most OEM unit do not even come with a Bezel )
Same problem with the back and side panels...though here you can sometimes
drill new holes.
You best bet is to get a combo unit from the same Mfgr as your existing
unit,
Then you have a least a decent chance of it taking your "old " parts.
If you pick the "wrong " Oem unit ...good luck in returning it .
Where are you planning to buy these ?
What prices are you seeing ?

Good luck
;-}
