Re: RE: [Thinkpad] regarding faster HDD's !?

Hi everbody
I notice that in the discussion of faster HDD's the discussion
only touches one single spec: HDD rotational speed i.e.
5400 resp 7200 rpm !!

This HDD rotational speed is not the only spec to get a HDD faster !?

Against older and slower HDD's the newer ones do not have
increased rpm's ...
... they also may provide bigger cache buffers,
i.e. 8MB against 2MB only !!!

One more criteria is the amount of heads:
Where the elder, slower have 1/2 heads only ...
... the newer ones do have 2/4 heads !!

High rotational speed is good but almost noisier !
A bigger cache buffer isn't noisy !
The (more) heads may cause some click(s) !

Do take these facts into your considertions to do
a good buy ;-)

I don't know about the 5400 drives but I can tell you that jumping from
4200 to 7200 changed my life ! The computer seems to twice as fast !

Seriously though, I'll definitely notice another 20gb of capacity.
Would
one really notice 1800 additional rpm?
