There are many 'on-the-fly' encryption programs out there; most give you the
option of either encrypting a partition or creating an encrypted virtual
drive, and these are all extremely easy to use in practice (you just 'open'
the encrypted drive with your pass phrase, then it functions like a normal
drive). The freeware ones are probably safer, in that they publish their
source code, but the commercial ones have more bells and whistles. I
regularly use the freebies scramdisk and E4M (samsimpson.com).
