Hello once again.
Last time I asked my questions about PCMCIA to USB 2.0 Card working on
Thinkpad 600E. Since then, I acquired one of the said cards, and it
seems to be working fine - most of the time. That is, when I connect my
Archos Jukebox (10 GB external HDD), it reads/writes at fullspeed of
USB 2.0, ditto for digital cameras. However, when I attach the iOmega
external CD burner (16x10x40) whose documentation specifically warns it
is made to work with USB 2.0 (the reason why I bought the card -
burning CDs at 4x can be mightily boring), it -reads- at the full speed
(40x) but refuses to 'burn' at all, even at 1x-4x, reporting a plethora
of odd errors. Software I'm using is MS Windows XP Pro and Ahead Nero
6.0 on TP 600E PII 400mhz 288 MB RAM 10 GB HDD.
PS: Another thing I noticed with the card: When I stick it into the
lower PCMCIA slot and connect the external CD writer, Windows reports
it as 'unknown device'; however, when I place it into the -upper- slot
and connect the Writer, it is recognised correctly, as 'USB Mass media
storage'. Any idea why?
