Let's say I've got my ThinkPad 600 (266MHz) on a train or somewhere
else I don't have ready access to a landline I can plug my notebook
into.
I remember from long ago that there were cellular modems, and in
fact I just looked and saw a bunch on eBay at various prices.
Is it just as simple as having the right cable, hooking it up to my
phone (Nokia something-or-other, Rogers AT&T, TDMA as I recall),
and dialling out to connect to my ISP? If it is, would I likely
get 2400bps or 9600bps or even more?
Or is it more complex than that? I know there are GPRS (?) and
other wireless data services offered by Rogers but they're for
Blackberries and surfing with your PDA and things like that, right?
Would I need that or would my regular cellular voice service be
enough to get a connection?
And any other advice? :)
Thanks!
