Solid state drives (IDE flashcards) are totally silent, pity they are so
expensive ($700 for 2Gb).
I got a smaller drive for less (800 Mb for $50) which works great (4+
hours on original 560x battery) but requires certain concessions in
terms of operating system size.
Fortunately I believe Windows works better if you leave a bunch of stuff
out (see www.litePC.com) so I'm managing with 800 Mb, a 1 Gb data card
and a desktop for archives.
