RE: [Thinkpad] upgrading T40 hard disk

Can anything bad happen by unhiding this partition? There is a reboot
involved in the EZgig process... can the OS try to combine this area
with the visible area of the drive?

You're on the right track. Unhide the service partition, copy the disk,
re-hide and so on.
