Mike -

Can you get a temp reading with the 1G installed? Bruce may be right
about some models not taking 1G processors, but I would try to rule out a
heat problem first. Shingo's utility at
http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/ works quite well to
show the CPU temp. Maybe install it with the 700 in and then swap to the
1G and see what it says? The system will shut down somewhere around 95C.

I did go directly to BIOS the first time I booted with the 1G processor in
my T20, not to change anything but just to see what it said. It worked
fine, but was prone to overheating until I put the T21 fan assembly in.
Also, with the T20 fan assembly, there was a gap between the heat sink and
the processor that required a pad. If yours is the same, it's possible
you weren't getting much benefit from the heat sink and you were getting a
quick overheat.

The T21 fan assembly I used worked fine w/o any mods. Aside from some
slight differences in dimensions, it looked like the main differrence was
the size of the heat pipe and the shape of the contact area above the
processor.
