[Thinkpad] 2.5 IDE adaptor

I plugged in my old Hitachi drive into a desktop system with this
adaptor I found. The power connect was plugged in, and the ribbon
cable was plugged in and secure. But when the system is powered on, it
doesn't boot up. It stays at the start-up screen. No messages scroll
by. Any clues here what this may mean?
