This is a Dell desktop, isn't it? If so, look on the back of the CPU for 4 diagnostic lights A, B, C and D. Watch and note what they
display as you start up the computer again, then go to http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dzuul/codemess.htm to interpret the
code.

Other ideas:

- Make sure the BIOS is set to autodetect IDE devices, also disable quick boot.
- You didn't say whether you added the Hitachi to the primary channel alone, on the primary along with the main hard drive, or on
the secondary.
- I believe that Dells are all set up for "cable select" instead of manual master & slave setting.
- If the second drive is sharing a cable with the main hard drive, whether it's on the end or the center connector could matter,
especially if the main is a Western Digital.
- If installed on the secondary channel, you'll need to enable that secondary channel in the BIOS.
