I don't think the plugs are the problem. New approach... I'm wondering if you might have inadvertently set the Hitachi to be the
master and the original drive as the slave. If the Hitachi is not set up to boot the desktop, and the other drive is no longer
available, you wouldn't have any bootable drive.

Which manual were you following to make connections? Is the Hitachi drive set to cable select?

EXACTLY what kind of cable are you using? Is it the same one that came installed in the Dell? You said there's a connector in the
middle...so it could be regular IDE/ATA, Cable Select or Ultra DMA. Does it have 40 or 80 wires? If you can't tell, look at the
middle connector. Are there any empty spots or are there 40 holes? If no blank spots, what color(s) are the connectors?
