The adapter isn't what requires jumpers to be set. Same-size HDs have the same issues.There are different methods of assigning
master/slave assignments, and you have to know which you're using, make sure both drives are set the right way, and have the right
cable.
I believe that your original setup -- including the desktop drive -- is cable select, because (I think) Dell does them all that way.
