[Thinkpad] 600E - Inverter card fixed

I thought I would post this in case other people with
600E screen problems find it useful.

The symptom was that the screen backlight would turn
off constantly. I found that pressing on the base of
screen would tend to turn it back on for a short time.
Sometimes I would be literally typing one handed
while I pressed on the screen base. Very annoying!

I took the screen cover off (note that the IBM service
guide indicates you have to disasemble the whole case
to do that, but I found that's not true). I
disconnected the inverter card. There is a semi-rigid
plastic sticker that sourrounds the card. The heat
had caused it to warp and pull away from the
electronics, and it tore off a resistor as it did so.
When I pressed on that spot with my finger, I was
actually pushing the resistor down onto the board and
making the connection! So I pulled off the sticker,
soldered the resister back on, put it back together,
and hurrah! It's been going for an hour or so, and no
black-screen-of-death.

Cheers all,

Angus Graham
