In my case, I did trace the problem to excessive heat (I'm still not sure
why - it appears that the fan is functioning properly without too much
dust/etc in the airflow and also as the bottom of the comp. was raised - in
a port replicator). After a thorough cleaning and application of arctic
silver all is good now - no problems since (knocking on wood...). I dont
think my HD gives off its temperature, so I can't compare temps that way
(it appears as though the critical shutdown proc. temp for the T23's is at
around 96deg C, as thats when I would undoubtedly shutdown at)
