hi andrew,
the first thing i would do is to deactivate the dhcp and use static ip.
then turn off the ssid broadcast (if you not already did so) and restrict
the wireless access to specified ips combined with the mac adress of your
wireless card. and of course use a 128 bit encryption. and dont forget to
change the routers standard access password!! (after that it is still
possible to sniff your wlan but it is MUCH harder and requires
professional skills to break into your lan)
the built in "firewall" of your router is no real hardware firewall, but
in combination with a software firewall (e.g. zonealarm) on your machine
you should be pretty safe. as always, those things are only as good as
they are configured...

[Thinkpad] thinkpad security, is a hardware firewall enough?
I'm concerned about protecting my Win98 Lite 560x from malware.
I have a linksys BEFW11SF wireless router connected to my cable modem
(dynamic IP). So far I've been clean as far as Norton AV and Bazooka can
tell. Is the router an adequate firewall (as good as a software firewall)?
I'm mostly worried about my 560x being turned into a spam zombie (a
wimpy spam zombie perhaps). Can anyone suggest a software utility that
would let me know when anything sends messages out.
