well, i'm not sure... the fancy IBM boot screen still appears instead of
a simple BIOS boot screen, so i presume it's ok; i can also still use
the configure BIOS entry screen (the fancy one with icons), which again
i presume is part of the predesktop area. as i use linux as my main
op.system though, i'm not sure... i don't really have any need for the
pre- area, i just keep it incase i screw up windows and want to
reinstall it.

what would you expect the update to have done? have i had a close escape?

thing is, i'm not sure it ran correctly... iirc it went to an install
shield screen, then said it was rebooting the computer, then it just...
hung. i think, can't remember. i was worried that it had buggered up but
i rebooted ok and have noticed no change since.

what are the implications of ignoring the update and not using it?
