Well, if you're running Linux it wouldn't help you restore, but it's more
than just the fancy three color IBM screen... the best way to see if you
still have it is to press F11 on boot and see if you get a mouse-based GUI
screen that would allow you to go into the BIOS or select a boot device.
Unless of course you took back the pre-desktop area before installing Linux,
in which case the whole thing is moot.
