Here's something a friend of mine posted to Usenet recently about Dell.
He had to buy a Dell notebook as part of his MBA program at UC Irvine.

My Thinkpad still works fine by the way, especially compared to all this...

As soe may know, I have some anger anagement issues with Dell,
specifically with my Dell Latitude C610. In the nearly two years I've had
the laptop, I've had over.......

5 motherboards swapped (although two of them were due to the fact that the
NIC and power converter are integrated onto the board)

1 keyboard replaced

2 hard drives replaced

2 CD ro's replaced

1 LCD replacement.

4 power supplies replaced (2 have elted on e. And I mean started soking
and making me high elted.)

And an assortment of service calls. The only thing that makes all of this
worth it is that I paid a lot of money for next day warranty support.

That's enough. I call up Dell one last time. I explain to them what's
going on. I'm not mad at the rep, but I'm just tired of this crud, and I
want them to take this laptop back. So they offer to replace it entirely.
Woo hoo! Nightare's over!

Or is it......

I end up getting a newer odel, the Latitude D600, back. It's a
refurbished model though, not a new one. Not only is it missing a battery,
the power supply is issing a cable, the LCD hinge is loose, so that it
doesn't stay up, and better yet, their syste says this is actually an
Inspiron, and that it's not covered by my warranty or service plan. Oh and
it didn't come with a floppy drive like it was supposed to.

And I found out today that the m key doesn't really work, along with the
y key. And the trackpad gets funky so it somehow thinks i clicked
when i didn't.

And their custoer service departent is closed on weekends, so I have
to wait until onday to get this taken care of.

So now I guess I'll call them back and tell them to swap y swapped laptop.
Argh.

ARGH.

I SWEAR I didn't do anything! I just opened the box! I can't be that
dangerous, can I?

I want a t-shirt for all of this.
