Hi all,

In the midst of everything else going on for me right now, I'm thinking of
getting my dad online. He spends quite a bit of time at home, and I think
it would be better than just watching TV.

So, I want to get him a ThinkPad. Basically, I want this to be EASY. Right
now, that still means Windows, especially since he doesn't live where I
do (but he does live near my sisters who run Windows). W98SE will be the
OS of choice, as I have a license. IE and a web-hosted e-mail account like
hotmail or yahoo will likely be the only applications he'll use for some
time, but I'll install Adobe Reader, Real Player, Quicktime, and either
MS's Office file viewers or OpenOffice.

He'll be using dialup. (550access seems pretty reliable.)

I think a larger screen would be good for his far-sighted 79-year-old
eyes, so I think the 240/X and 560/E/X/Z are out of the running.

My first reaction, since I have a 600X and 600E and care for another 600E
is to get a low-end 600E or middle to high 600. I am shy of the i series,
and the 3xx's. (I've had a 385 and didn't like how cheap it felt.)

I'm looking for comments like "Hey, check out the 560X" or "I still like
my 770."

Many thanks,
Chris Schumann
