IBM a/b/g and I believe I downloaded all the latest drivers when I
set up the machine. Let's see...
11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter Properties
Driver Provider: Accton Technology Corporation
Driver Date: 18/01/2004
Driver Version: 2.4.1.12
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility
Strange, too, I just noticed when I check "Wireless Network
Connection 2 Status", it says "Duration" is 17:03:02 and packets
sent/received on the order of 160,000. Does that mean the card has
been talking to the router for 17 hours (which is about right, I
got it hooked up for the first time at about 6pm yesterday)? Maybe
this helps narrow down "network not available".

The irony is that I rarely got 5-bars with the MS card in the 600,
having the antenna a foot higher up may help? (I'm also getting
better connections with the built-in modem than with the 600's).

My understanding is that both are advised, as they perform
different functions. MAC filtering to stop others from connecting
to your network, and WEP to stop others from reading your
transmissions.
This leads to another question. Driving to Montreal, we were
stopped in traffic on autoroute 40. For fun I activated the
802.11b and was told there were 4 or 5 networks available. Most
were encrypted but a couple weren't. I was able to connect and
surf to microsoft.com (picked one at random). Traffic started
moving and of course the network became unavailable. [BTW I was in
the passenger seat!]
Questions are, first am I doing anything illegal by using their
bandwidth (I assume not, although if I tried to tamper with their
router or even grab packets maybe I would); and secondly am I
exposing myself at all?
Thanks!
