[Thinkpad] re: TP 770 HDD recognition

Hello
Thanks Rob, for the tips - I needed long-time, but actually I solved
this problem - it seemed a mechanical one: between the plug and the
HDD was a hairline gap - I closed it and the Thinkpad is booting
alright.
I was irritated because the test before initialising showed an error
message on the HDD, but after initialise and reboot there was none!

Now the next problem arose:
Booting afterwards, the configuration of the 770 has changed, and
instead of the Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI BUS MASTER IDE controller,
both the standard controllers were automatically installed. I still
cannot access IDE devices in the dock. (I activated both channels for
the Controller, and the docking station within Thinkpad Configuration
- which I found altered after rebooting).
I tried to change one of them back into - but den Second IDE
Controller (Dual Fifo) will not have an IRQ attached.
And changing the driver of both of them one has the yellow conflict
symbol, and only each First IDE Controller controls a device (HDD
and CDR)
In Windows Safety mode, I found the INTEL controller and the IRQ
14 and 15 assigned.
I cleared all other controllers just this set of three remained) But after
booting there is the set, with the second controller without IrQ and a
Standard controller for the HDD.
So how can I change this?
For the dock - IRQ holder for PCI steering - I use IRQ 11.
"Enabling IDE devices" gives sometimes an error message "Conflict
with PCI Device Setup".
But sometimes not.
How can I solve this? Setting up the correct controller and the
connect to the IDE devices in the dock.
Thank you
Bernadette
