My 3rd 560x will boot from a PC card with a dead hard drive present.
Does it make any difference if you set the BIOS to boot from the PC card
then the floppy?
Will it boot from floppy?
I could imagine a POST test that would want to see some sort of IDE
device present on start up.
You could use one of the PCMCIA-IDE adapters to plug the card into your
IDE cable but you may not want to go that route.
Let me know if you want the URL for the adapter.

Good Luck

technology is the answer, what was the question?
PS: who is your source for 128 MB EDO RAM?
I'd still like to try more than 64 in my 560, if it's cheap enough I
might be up for experimenting.
