[Thinkpad] Thinkpad T41 a/b/g Atheros wireless and Linux (Debian)

Did anyone have any luck getting the IBM a/b/g
mini-PCI card to work under Linux? I'm running Debian
(Knoppix 3.4) and tried the MadWiFi project - no luck
:( Is there an easy way to get this Atheros card
working that does not involve re-compiling the kernel?

I appreciate if anyone shares some ideas/suggestions.
