I think I have seen something on ebay from a japanese
seller that sells USB Audio remote control for Sony
laptop.
That is a remote that has usb connection on one end
and female 3.5mm audio connector on the other. I can't
find the link and am not sure whether it will work
with a non sony laptop.
The remote display piece looks similar to this unit
