Speaking of the IBM Update Connector, when I try to use it, it doesn't
connect at all. I suspect it tries to connect on a port my firewall blocks.
Does anyone know on which port the IBM Update Connector tries to connect?

I know nothing of IBM Update Connector but I do know that if your firewall
is, in fact, blocking a port then any attempts to cross the port are/can be
logged (assuming any firewall worth a hill of beans). Check your firewall
for logging. Many times logging is not enabled by default and must be turned
on (you may be able to pick what events are and are not logged as well).
Once your firewall is logging then simply attempt to use IBM Update
Connector and check your logs. You can also use logs to determine why an
operation failed even if the reason is not specifically a closed port.
