[Thinkpad] ThinkPad model lines

I'd appreciate if one or two people could give me a very simple/brief summary of the different TP lines. I've shopped on the IBM site and pulled up a map that compared them, but I never really understood. Actually, I can be more specific: I think the G is the cheapest and bulkiest, and the X is the smallest and lightest--where I'm stuck is, what is the difference between the R and the T. (I have a recently acquired A31P, and so I also wonder, in this scheme, where would the A fit in, or what is it's replacement. (and I also still use my 600e.))
