Re: [Thinkpad] ThinkPad model lines

The A was always the flagship, packed with the newest technology and not
skimping anywhere. Large screen, often 3-spindles, big drives, etc.
However, they A31p is the latest iteration and that's been out a while.
There really hasn't been a new flagship to take the place for a while.
the A is essentially the successor to the 770.

R is kind of like an A series... fairly large with a full-size ultrabay,
usually large screens. It just isn't quiet as 'cutting edge' as the A
is (was?). It saves some cost by using more plastic and slightly less
capable technology.

The T series is the thin & light corporate laptop. Not so small as to
sacrifice many features like the X, but usually with a step down in
screen size from the A and R. The T is typically very cutting edge in
technology except maybe for the video card which is good but not
bleeding edge. The T is the successor to the 600 series.

The G series is to be avoided unless it will sit on a desk most of the
time. It is bulky and not leading edge. Kind of the 'budget' corporate
desktop replacement.

The X is small & light, leaving out some features and reducing
everything - like screen size, disk space, etc. I don't think it has
the ability to have an optical drive in it without a separate media
slice, which is somewhat like a mini dock.

I'm sure others will chime in and add to my info or give their own
opinion on it.

Later,
Rob

I've shopped on the IBM site and pulled up a map that compared them, but I never really understood. Actually, I can be more specific: I think the G is the cheapest and bulkiest, and the X is the smallest and lightest--where I'm stuck is, what is the difference between the R and the T. (I have a recently acquired A31P, and so I also wonder, in this scheme, where would the A fit in, or what is it's replacement. (and I also still use my 600e.))
