[Thinkpad] Dead Thinkpad (Power Problem)

Hi,

a couple of hours ago my beloved i-Series 1161-267 seems to have finally
bitten the dust: The plug for the power supply or related electronics
seem to be broken. It's really weird:

* With power cable plugged in (whether a charged or discharged battery
is in the machine or not, doesn't matter):

When I plug in the power cable, the orange light appears,
indicating that the machine has power. However, when I hit the power-
button it seems to turn on for the fraction of a second, only
  making a quick sound.

* With charged batteries but without the power cable being plugged in:

In this case the machine runs fine. The batteries are empty now,
  however. :(

I plan to investigate the problem more in depth later today and I also
plan to study the HW-MM. But, maybe someone has an idea what may be the
cause for the problem?

Felix
