I would think there would be at least some national security interest in
having at least one source of laptops which are manufactured in North
America.

There is some irony here, when one considers that IBM's early success
was in part because when WWII began we had to stop buying German and
Italian typewriters, and IBM was the only US source prepared to stock
the war effort.
