[Thinkpad] Hitachi travelstar 60 GB HDD and A31

Hi,

I just bought the 60 GB Travelstar HDD for replacing the 30gb drive in
my thinkpad model A31. I use the ultrabay for preparing the drive and
copying the partitions. The drive will not work because the A31 is not
able to see the 255 logical heads of the drive but sees only 240
logical heads. My other laptop, A T30, can use the drive without
problems. A low level format, suggested by the Hitachi helpdesk, indeed
formats the drive on the A31 with 240 logical heads and the drive works
ok. But then it gives problems on the T30 because that system sees the
drive with 255 logical heads. The error indicates that the partitions
do not start on cylinder/head boundary.

Is this a bios bug? Does it work as 'designed'? What can I do to
enforce that both systems can use the drive in the ultrabay?

Thanks in advance, Tom Koudstaal
