Castlewood, I think has filed chapter 7 which is a bit too bad. Did a
quick check to see if I could find who might have picked up the tech but my
interest didn't last longer than about five min.
I still have Orb (SCSI) drives which I use with some regularity. After some
success with Zip drives at a time when 100 meg removable for $15 did not
seem exorbitant I was very disappointed in Jaz (which used a different
design entirely) Some of the problems and rep. stemmed from initial manfc.
defects in off shore production, but for what ever reason I was never
satisfied with Jaz performance, even as medium for transferring static
files.
With the Orb on the other hand I never had a qualm about (after a suitable
shake down) using as a target drive for streaming (primarily audio) data. In
fact I still have a six year old DAW, a fairly extensive SCSI investment,
for which the orb still plays a roll.
Of course my concern was never to boot from or make a 'mirror' of a boot
drive. Ever since Win95 I've pretty much quite worrying about that kind of
static backup. Keeping copies of config files separate from system files,
keeping track of various updates can be a pain but I've found that to be
less time consuming than attempting to keep track of daily weekly monthly
backups under the deluded illusion that if you run into trouble you will be
able to seamlessly 'restore' from one or several of those mirrors.
So I have never tried to boot from an Orb.
