James,
I did indeed once do the 133 Mhz upgrade, but that was for my brother's 701 when I outfitted all my siblings with one. Those were all lost during a fire back home in KY, and I've upgraded everyone to 600s since then - the remaining stock 701 I kept for support purposes is still with me because everyone wanted bigger displays and optical drives. I'm trying to put together a little "ultimate 701" project for myself: 133Mhz cpu, 64MB RAM upgrade, 20GB drive, Lit-Ion battery, Win98 Lite, IBM Portfolio case...just want to see what I can do, how nice I can make one.
Paul,
Browse eBay and do a search on Orinoco Gold. JHEM recommended the card to me either here or on Usenet when I asked about a 16-bit WiFi card. Once I get home I can check the exact model number, the ones I see now look slightly different. The card cost me about $30, more than you paid for your 701. I've only tried it with my home WLAN, not my T-Mobile HotSpot account, but so far so good.
Emanuel
