[Thinkpad] Update Connector 6.10 fails to list available updates on W2K / 600X

Spent 30 minutes downloading Update Connector (62 mb); it successfully reports my system
characteristics to IBM but stalls at 66% when "Checking for updates" replicably. My
TCP/IP monitor shows no traffic at all after several hours. Ideas?
