i am a newcomer to the list so please forgive my naivitee.

i had been happily running my T23 as a linux machine for 2 years
and recently the need had come up for me to create a dual boot system
with XP Professional as the primary partuition. I will preface this
request with the admission that I am a complete "Microsoft MORON"
having never owned a MS-only machine (dual boots and virtual PCs only)

i installed a brand new IBM 80G drive, i booted off the XP Pro 2002 CD (SP1),
booted, created a 30 GB FAT32 slice (for the purpose of dual-booting),
and proceeded to install XP, and then load the updates to SP2.

however absolutely no standby or hibernation capabilities appear to function
on this machine, whether closing the lid, or using [Alt][F4].

i updated the BIOS to 2004 spec bios which changed nothing.

the thing that mystifies me is when i go to :

[Start]->[My Computer]->[Control Panel]->[Performance and Maintenance]->
[Power Options] to get the "Power Option Properties" dialog

in that dialog under [Advanced] tab under the "Power Buttons" frame:

"When I close the lid of my portable computer": the the only choice is
   [Do nothing]

and
"When I Press the power button on my computer": the choices offered
   [Do Nothing]
   [Ask me what to do]
   [Shut Down]

i fully expected to see [Standyby] to be on the list. when this very
same T23 hardware was running the factory-installed Windows 2000, the standby
and hibernation modes were definitely functional. and of course on linux,
standby and hibernation worked great.

i am glad to be part of the list and thank you all in advance,

-rei
