This is not helpful to you, but just to let you know that someone
feels your pain:

My 600E machine typically boots with only one bank working unless i
press on the memory cover with my thumb or give the machine a smack on
the bottom. In the past I've gone with the smack, since that tends to
make it work for a day or two, but I just got a new hard drive and I
don't want to mistreat it.
