I have read comments on this list and on the Thinkpads Forum, but I
cannot agree with the posting based upon our experience.

We install a lot of new 2.5" drives in various laptops in our drive.
Many are Thinkpad upgrades. We use a variety of Seagate drive sizes
because Seagate has the five year warranty and nobody else does.

We have seen no failures or error messages with the Seagate in any laptop.

Strangely, we are getting a very large number of failures coming into
our shop of Western Digital which used to be the best, most reliable
drives for us.

Over the years we have used a variety of brands, and the only one that
was consistently trouble was a Hitachi that has been pulled from the
market.

I don't think it matters much what you use in your laptop, but the
7200 rpm models are certainly the fastest... on an older computer it
is a waste to use a high ATA or a high RPM, so I recommend Tohsiba ATA
5 5400 on those because of the price.

Basically, anything will work, and you can count on most of them to
work well for a long time... even the Fujitsu and Samsun... but the
Seagate five year warranty is great and with the numbers on the hard
drive you can deal directly with Seagate.
