[Thinkpad] t40 512 : running out of space, help!

Good afternoon,

I have Think Pad T40 with 512 RAM. About a year ago I was using the IBM
backup software and think (not sure) ended up reserving a bulk of the RAM
for this backup option. My Computer shows the "Total Size" is 20.5, so it
must have gone somewhere.

Well, I'm at a point where I've almost tapped out all of my hard drive
space. I went through and clean up the disk space and even removed
application I'm not using. However, I still need more space.

Can anybody help?

1. How can I capture more HD space?
2. If I did do something to the HD to reserve space for backup, how can I
capture that back?
