Hello,
I don't use the IBM backup software myself, but I am guessing it stores
an image of the disk or a "snapshot" of changed files when run, is that
correct?
If you are running Microsoft Windows XP, you can reduce the amount of
disk space used by the System Restore program, which creates a "snapshot"
of the files on the system. If memory serves, by default System Restore
allocates 12% of a disk's space for this function. You could reduce that
or disable it entirely by right-clicking on the My Computer icon on your
Desktop, selecting Properties from the popup menu and clicking on the
Sytem Restore tab to change or disable it.
Likewise, you can change (or entirely disable) the amount of disk space
reserved for the Recycle Bin. I believe the default value is 10% of the
disks's space. To change this, right-click on the Recycle Bin on your
Desktop and select Properties from the popup menu.
If you use Internet Explorer as your web browser, you can change the
size (and location) of the Temporary Internet File folder by running it
and selecting Tools -> Internet Options from the main menu. Clicking on
the Settings button will allow you to see and change how much disk space
is allocated for temporary files, and clicking on the Delete button will
allow you to clear them from the system.
