Re: [Thinkpad] where to buy

Well, I can't accept returns on factory sealed new ThinkPads. You open, you
own it, any defect is handled under the factory warranty. On used/open box
units, I always do the right thing. But on used units, I always check them
out first and do any repairs, or reveal the exact condition to the buyer.
On new units, I don't have any way of knowing if there are defective pixels,
non-working fingerprint readers or whatever, since the box is sealed.
I am not direct with IBM (I think Bill is), so if someone buys a sealed unit
and opens it, I lose 20-30% of the value on the spot. Which of course is way
more than I expected to make on the deal in the first place.
Which is why I only sell IBM, they always take care of warranty issues! And
that is why I responded to that other persons question about contacting the
seller. On a brand new sealed unit, what does the seller have to do with it,
unless they are direct with IBM and have a return privledge (which of course
the buyer pays for in the original price!!!)
I am posting this because I don't want anyone to have the impression, based
on what someone else says, that I will take back an opened unit that was
sold brand new and sealed. Even many brick and mortar retailers charge a 15%
re-stocking fee for that.
