Bah... it's probably going to come down to time, and that means I'm
leaning toward partitioning (putting the factory C: drive on a smaller
partition, creating a D: partition).
Going through the IBM software installer AND Windows Updates takes a
LONG time...
But I'm not so sure how much time will be saved at this point, since I
don't currently have a "live" partitioner - I don't think Partition
Magic or Acronis Disk Directory have trial versions - but maybe they do.
I'll need to check pricing on them. If not too much I guess I can spring
for this (likely) one-time use.

I think shrinking the current partition is easier for sure. But I
originally stated I was going to create and image, then wipe the current
drive, create partitions and install factory C: on smaller partition.
Still easier than a complete reinstall of everything, but I haven't ever
tried installing an image on a different-sized partition, so was a bit
nervous.
I guess I'm stuck with what appears to be an easier and simpler solution
that I've never done (changing partition size) vs. what appears to be
longer solution that I've done a few times before (complete reinstall).
That, and I'm getting antsy to use the new machine!
Thanks for the replies (Mike and Matt).
